Recycled clothes

Here is a project I did for my good friend Heather. The goal was to make clothing out of recycled materials. I used newsprint, newspaper, and recycled hair-dye boxes. Heather is a student at Paul Mitchell and needed the outfits for a photoshoot for her final project.

Bridesmaid feather/beaded headpieces

One of my dearest friends, Keren is getting married this month. These are the headpieces I created for her bridal party. The large headpiece with the peacock feather is for the maid of honor. Each headpiece has a one-of-a-kind hand sewn bead applique attached. More photos to come, but next time you see them, they will be resting on the heads of Keren's beautiful bridesmaids:) p.s. I get to stand up in the wedding!

Feather bases assembled.... Now its time to attach the beads

Here is the finished product, I can't wait to see them on the girls!!!

Passing time

Old sketches from riding the train, downtime at work, etc.

Rendering project

Watercolor pencil. My first time rendering plaid. Its a little overworked but I still enjoyed the project.  It was fun drawing my croquis with minimal facial features and working with a medium I wasn't that familiar with.

Never (ever) too old for crayons!

GM Competition- SAAB Turbo X 2008

I created this look for the GM competition at IADT in 2008. All of the students signed up to participate in the competition, went to the Chicago Auto Show to draw inspiration from the 5 chosen vehicles, selected by GM.  Each of the 5 vehicles represented a different type of clothing such as : evening wear, cocktail dress, sportswear, and avant garde.
Each student could submit 1 sketch per vehicle and only 1 student per vehicle would be chosen as a finalist.
My sketch was selected for the 2008, SAAB Turbo X in the red-carpet category. After being selected, we were to make the garments shown in our sketches. We were each given video cameras to blog about our construction process on a weekly basis, leading up to our debut at IADT's annual IMAGINE fashion show.
I wanted my garment to represent something both modern and classic, soft as well as edgy, strong and feminine. I felt that the Saab held a great balance between those things and I wanted to mimic that in the form of a wearable garment that would complement the figure of the wearer.
It was fun and intense to be involved in this competition. Walking the runway with my winning design was a moment I will never forget. I certainly remember how short I felt, walking next to my model (Who, by the way did the most amazing job showing off my garment!). Thank you GM and IADT for the awesome experience !
